At the Netherlands Carillon Center, you can take the following courses:
Carillon course A: Beginners
The book used is ‘Voorslag, Method for the Amateur-carillonneur’. It teaches you the main basic skills by means of exercises and attractive elementary pieces. The emphasis lies on the use of the hands, manual playing. At the end of the course, there is an afternoon or evening at the Netherlands Carillon School, to which you can invite friends and family to hear you play.
Carillon course B: Intermediate
If you have completed course A successfully, you can go on to Intermediate. During this follow-on course, the book used is ‘Music for the Amateur Carilloneur’.
Carillon course C: During the Market
After the previous courses, it is time for the real thing. The two carillons of the Tower of Our Lady in the centre of Amersfoort are played four times a week, amongst others during the market on Friday and Saturday. The town centre at the foot of the tower would not be the same without the pleasant sound of the carillon.
Carillon course D: towards vocational training
If you have completed all the courses and want to go even further, you might want to go on to preliminary vocational training. In that case, you and your teacher talk to the coordinator of the Netherlands Carillon School to decide which pieces you should prepare for the entrance examination.
