belgenmonument1In 1953, with the founding of the Netherlands Carillon School, a light carillon was built in one of the towers of the Belgian Monument. This is situated on the ‘Amersfoortse Berg’ in the south of Amersfoort and commemorates the period between 1914 and 1918, when Belgian soldiers were interned here.  It lies in a park, a great distance from housing, and can therefore always be played. The carillon of the Belgian Monument is the most used teaching and practice carillon of the Netherlands Carillon School.
